Hi, and thank you for visiting this site. I’m Doug Lising, author of States United.

The primary purpose of this web site is to give away my book (downloaded in pdf form) for free – no conditions. Needless to say I’m not selling anything on this site nor am I trying to make any money from selling my book. I am just hoping to spur some thought and debate on the topics touched on in States United.

I believe that the federal government spends too much of our money (over $20 trillion in debt and over $150 trillion in unfunded liabilities). And still we have a poor education system, crazy immigration policies, excessive regulations and red tape, and a health care system badly in need of restructuring.

So I wrote States United suggesting that state and local governments are often better able to tailor policies and programs to meet the specific needs of their citizens more effectively and efficiently than federal one-size-fits-all programs, which too often fits no one at all. This would also allow the central government to focus on truly federal priorities.

So I would ask only that you read States United with a critical but open mind and share any thoughts and ideas you might have with your family, friends, and acquaintances (and me if you wish). Rigorous debate is encouraged, as is contact with your elected representatives.
